I always wanted this to be the first sandwich review on here, because it’s just such a damn fantastic sandwich. Little Dorritt is a lovely looking little sandwich place, just off Borough Market on Park Street, next to the Paul Smith shop. It’s got a glass sneeze guard with pre-prepared fillings behind it, a large selection of breads, a cast iron jacket potato oven thing, a hot plate and toasting devices behind the staff and a fridge full of drinks next to a display unit of crisps. If you had a standard checklist for a sandwich shop, it gets ticks the whole way down. Add in ‘a few tables, chairs and stools for those who might want to sit in’ and we are complete!
Despite its proximity, it hasn’t gone the way of Borough
Market; i.e. charging eye-watering amounts for reasonably good food. It just goes about its business, making good,
solid, dependable sandwiches at affordable prices. Until, that is, you try this bad boy of a
chicken wrap.
In a David
and Goliath moment, Diet Coke
felled the mighty chicken wrap

The highlight here is
the amount of chicken in each wrap.
Watching through the glass, you see your warmed tortilla piled up with
sauce and garnish and then the warmed chicken gets transferred from the hot
plate to the wrap. After the second lot
goes on, you start to think that this is a good sandwich. And then more arrives. And more.
And still more. Finally when he
stops and they attempt to, errr, wrap your wrap, you’re struggling to contain your glee at the chickenfest that lies ahead.
If you’re looking for a neat, tightly wrapped
cylinder of a sandwich, this is not for you; M&S might be more your thang. This is a wrap doing its damnedest to hang on
to its filling, but holding its hands up and accepting that some of that
mountain of chicken will just have to spill out the top.
The first bite. Aww
yisssssss

The Tasting
And so it begins…
The tortilla is soft and warm. Let's be honest, it’s difficult to get a tortilla wrong.
The chicken is warm and juicy and moist and is clearly
the hero of the sandwich. Absolutely
packed full of the stuff, easily around 70% of each and every bite.
The salad is, well it’s salad, you don’t need me to tell
you what salad’s like. It’s fresh, it’s
crisp and it’s cool and does what salad’s there to do.
The
mayo, hot sauce and Tabasco combine to make a creamy, fiery sauce of goodness
that gives a delicious kick with every bite.
It’s meaty, fresh, warming and delicious. The juiciness of the chicken is evident
throughout the sandwich. It holds its
shape, only threatening to lose it in the last couple of bites, when the sauce
and chicken juices finally take their toll on the structural integrity. This is why we started eating wraps in the
first place, this is good.
In fact, this is why lunchtimes were invented. This puts poor sandwiches in their place. This makes me realise what a lunchtime sandwich
should be.
No chickens
were harmed in the making of this wrap
